Funding support from the state government over the next two years will allow BWA to break new ground, delivering on its current Performance and Pathway strategy, to implement several key initiatives and programs for female athletes, coaches and referees in Western Australia.

The collaboration with WNBL club the Perth Lynx will see female participants gain rare insight and invaluable experience within the professional sporting environment.

This significant advancement of BWA’s performance pathway will see selected participants exposed to the professional environment through targeted Emerging Development & Performance Programs for athletes, coaches and referees which will provide mentorship, hands on experience, and unrivalled access to processes and shared knowledge.

Basketball WA Chief Executive, Fabian Ross, said the collaboration would provide a great opportunity to elevate and promote women in basketball, as well as strengthen the partnership between BWA’s performance pathways program and the Perth Lynx.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Perth Lynx to provide an incredible new platform for our female athletes, coaches and referees that will ensure strong connections right through to the professional end of the pathway.”

Perth Lynx General Manager, Chris Earl, believes the collaboration represents a powerful step forward for women’s basketball in Western Australia.

“Providing young athletes, coaches and referees with genuine access to a professional environment is invaluable – it helps fast‑track development, inspires confidence, and shows what is possible at the elite level.

“The Perth Lynx are incredibly proud to work alongside Basketball WA to strengthen the female pathway and ensure the next generation has every opportunity to thrive.”

Executive Director Sport and Recreation, Jacqui Jashari, said funding towards female sport initiatives in a rapidly growing area such as basketball was important to ensure women remain in the sport long-term.

“WA Government support for women’s basketball isn’t just about high‑performance sport, it’s about building safe, inclusive and connected communities right across our State,” she said.

“Basketball continues to grow at an incredible pace and we’re proud to deliver funding that is helping girls and women stay engaged, feel supported and have clear pathways to shoot for on and off the court.”

Further information regarding selection eligibility and program details will be released over the coming months.
